It is very hard to quit smoking because tobacco contains highly addictive drug called nicotine. There are approximately 7000 chemicals in tobacco, including about 70 that we know cause cancer. Reducing or quitting tobacco use is one of the most important things you can do for your health.

- About 17% of Albertans smoke tobacco and potentially expose others to the toxic smoke
- Spit tobacco is not a safe alternative to smoking. It contains more than 400 chemicals, including 30 known carcinogens.
- Relapses are often a part of the quitting process. Don’t be discouraged. It can be a great learning opportunity.
- Using nicotine replacement therapy (NRTs) or medications can greatly increase your success with quitting
- Talk to your doctor or pharmacist for more information and find the products that are right for you
